Central Sterile Processing Technologist Certificate (6360)

Program Purpose.

To prepare students with the experience, knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent services as a central sterile processing technologist. Graduates will be prepared to become integral members of the surgical team and are essential for patient safety by being responsible for decontamination, inspection, assembling, disassembling, packaging and sterilizing reusable surgical instruments, supplies and devices. This program prepares students to take the national certification exam through the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management.

Employment Types: 

Central sterile processing technicians (medical equipment preparers) and central service technicians.

Program Length:

30 credit hours

Admission Requirements:

Applicant must be college-ready, which means the applicant does not need development education courses in English, reading and/or mathematics. This requirement may be satisfied by one or more of the following options: the Florida Statute on Developmental Education exemption, adequate placement scores on the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) or other college placement scores accepted by TCC, completion of developmental education courses, or completion of at least ENC1101  and one general education mathematics  course.

Program Application:

The program accepts students for each Fall semester. This is a limited-access program with a limited number of seats per class.

Applicants must submit a TCC admission application and attend the Health Science Program information session to obtain and submit a program application.
