PTN1121 Therapeutic Agents I

This course provides practical knowledge of the most commonly used pharmaceuticals in the U.S., focusing on the top 200 commonly prescribed and over-the-counter medications. Topics include evolution and source of medicinal drugs, product identification, storage and dispensing requirements, dosage forms and routes of administration, abbreviations, pronunciation and mechanism of action for medications, interactions, indications, and contraindications. Medical errors and prevention, antibiotics, therapy for fungal and viral infections, anesthetics, analgesics, narcotics, psychiatric and related drugs, and drugs for the central nervous system will also be covered. Lecture: 3 hours.  Does not count toward A.A. degree.
