Prerequisite(s): admission to FPSI program.
Students will gain an understanding of the Fourth Amendment related to search and seizure; learn what constitutes a lawful arrest; understand the Fifth and Sixth Amendments related to the interrogation of suspects; determine when a crime has been committed and the elements necessary to make an arrest for that crime; understand the legal rules and concepts of evidence; know how to draft a probable cause affidavit; understand civil and criminal liability related to an officer’s performance of duties; understand an officer’s duties and options in civil (noncriminal) incidents; and become familiar with legal considerations when dealing with juveniles. 64 clock hours. Does not count toward A.A. degree.
