HIM2214 Health Statistics3 credit hour(s) | Fall Prerequisite(s): grade of C or better in MGF1106 or MAC1105 , and HIM1000 . This course provides instruction on how to abstract and maintain data for clinical indices/databases/registries; collect, organize, and present data for quality management, utilization management, risk management, and other patient-care-related studies; compute and interpret healthcare statistics; apply institutional review board processes and policies; use specialized databases to meet specific organization needs such as medical research and disease registries; analyze clinical data to identify trends that demonstrate quality, safety and effectiveness of healthcare; calculate staffing levels and productivity standards for health information functions; and calculate health information departmental record supplies such as storage units for budget recommendations. Students will receive hands-on experience with statistical software. Contact 3 hours.
