HIM2112C Health Information Technology2 credit hour(s) | Fall Prerequisite(s): documented exemption, appropriate placement scores or completion of developmental education reading, writing and mathematics. Prerequisite/Corequisite(s): This combined lecture/laboratory course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the history, theory and functional benefits of electronic health records. Topics of study include the transition from a paper-based health record to an electronic health record and challenges to adoption; databases and electronic health record (EHR) data formats; major types of healthcare system applications; and terminologies, classifications, vocabularies and data standards. Students will complete an electronic health record simulation. Lecture: 1 hour. Lab: 2 hours.
