Program Purpose:

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Exceptional Education is a limited-access program open to students who have completed their Associate of Arts degree. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Exceptional Education prepares students for certification in Exceptional Education. Students will also complete coursework within the degree leading to endorsements in Reading (K-12) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL, K-12).

In addition to offering this as a Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Education, our program is also designed to be certified by the Florida Department of Education’s Initial Teacher Preparation  Program (ITP) per Florida Statutes and standards as specified in Rule 6A-5.066. Our curriculum offers coursework and field experience aligned with Standard 2: Quality of Content Knowledge and Teaching Methods, and Standard 3: Quality of Clinical Placement, Feedback and Candidate Performance which ensures that students’ mastery of the Uniform Core Curricula (UCC) effectively prepares them for all portions of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE).

Additionally, our program is designed as a holistic approach to teacher education by integrating the professional soft skills in combination with the content knowledge and field experience to effectively position graduates to be competitive in the job market.

Tallahassee Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate and baccalaureate degrees.
