Emergency Medical Technician Certificate (B312)

Program Purpose:
To prepare students for employment as certified emergency medical technicians (EMT) to work as part of the emergency medical team and to provide the first level of educational preparation for students seeking to become registered paramedics.

Employment Types:
Certified emergency medical technicians (EMT) are employed by emergency care providers, ambulance companies, hospitals and other settings.

Program Length:
11 credit hours; one semester

Program Application:
This is a limited-access program with a limited number of seats per class. For more information, visit the EMT Certificate program Web page.

Applicants must submit both a general TCC application and a separate healthcare program application. Application procedures must be completed by the published deadlines.

Admission Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and meet all admission requirements of the College, including appropriate placement scores.

Applicants must have also completed one of the following:

  • Approved college-level first aid course (HSC2400 )
  • Approved first responder course (EMS1059C )
  • American Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder Certificate

Applicants must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR for the Healthcare Provider and Professional Rescuer certification. (One of these two hands-on courses is required; online courses are not acceptable.)

The applicant must take the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (FPERT) and place in ENC1101 , reading exempt and MAT0028 , or have successfully passed the minimum of MAT0018 , ENC0025  and REA0017 . Please contact the TCC Testing Center at 201-8282 for information about FPERT.

At a scheduled time, applicants will have to demonstrate an ability to lift 125 pounds, successfully complete a course readiness test and complete an interview. All students participating in this program must pass all clinical affiliates’ requirements for criminal background checks, drug screenings and health/immunizations before starting classes.
